Message from the East

I was reading “Whence come we” and noticed that several times in our history, the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario levied the membership in order to raise funds for worthwhile projects. At the time, the levies were 2 or 3 dollars and I am led to believe by some of our older brethren that this was a lot of money in their day. Levies don’t really happen today, but our Grand Lodge has put out an appeal for $25 per member to raise funds for the Grand Master’s project, Prostate Hope. Please consider making a direct contribution to this project. Not only will it be tax deductible, but the life you try to save may be your own someday.

There are other worthy projects too. I have encountered many parents and volunteers from our learning center for dyslexia. I continue to be amazed by the vibrancy and necessity of the center and people who staff it. This too is a project for our DDGM, R.W. Bro. David J. Boyd. From top to bottom, it is a worthwhile thing.

Our own chaplain, Bro. Norm Susil will be riding to conquer Cancer and he needs not only your financial but your moral and spiritual support. It is fantastic to see charity in action within our own lodge. Go Norm!

Finally, we have a project to address with the Vimy Ridge Memorial at CFB Borden. At our committee of general purposes meeting we will be discussing the allocation of funds for this project. Please attend and let you voice be heard.

The year is half over and we are on the downhill slide. It is time to get ready for the next year. Please think about your masonic future and think what you can do to further your lodge this spring.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

W. Bro. Scott Best
